Tiger Ventures (alternative high school)

Carol Cooper

PLEDGE STORY UPDATE

Mentoring a group of at-risk students building a video game in a new alternative high school that emphasizes entrepreneurship and applied skills in coordination with the local business and academic communities.  This is one of the schools in the XQ Superschool project to re-imagine high school for 21st century.

This once prosperous town where IBM started has fallen on hard times as jobs moved away.  The community is making an effort to build on its history of innovation by combining school and a business incubator to help re-vitalize the area.  Funded by Laurene Powell Jobs, only 18 high schools were finalists in the national competition.

Kids who had attendance and/or behavior problems are motivated to learn in a new context.
